Trials

To date, Silhouette Medical has preformed a total of 400 procedures on three different animal
species: dunnarts, rats, and pigs (SEE graph below). The results showed an extremely
consistent pattern among these animals: a weight decrease of approximately 20% compared
to shams within one month postoperatively. All of the animals continued to eat as they
normally would but in smaller portions. Also, there was no observed difference in the treated
animal activity level vs. the shams. A one year follow-up on the pigs showed an approximate
weight decrease of 40% which leveled off at 5 months.

None of the animals developed any complications intra- or post-operatively.

Future studies will refine the treatment parameters to obtain a predetermined weight loss
regardless of individual variabilities. In addition, onset Type II diabetes will be closely studied
to determine its relationship to weight loss; a known factor in elimination of Type II diabetes.
